Q-Post, in a significant tie-up with the Bangladesh Post yesterday announced its international instant money remittance service to the South Asian country on the Universal Postal Union’s (UPU) International Finance System (IFS) platform.
While announcing the agreement at a brief ceremony held at the Arab Postal Museum at Katara, Q-Post chairman Faleh Mohamed al-Naemi and Bangladesh Post Director General Prabhosh C Saha hoped the new arrangement would help Bangladeshi expatriates in easy money transfer to their home country.
Bangladesh ambassador Ashud Ahmed and second secretary of the Bangladesh embassy Mohamed Nazimul Haq, Bangladesh Post’s Post Master General Mohamad Sirazudeen, Deputy Secretary of Bangladesh Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and ICT, M A Hannan and Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Khaleeda Perveen were present at the ceremony.
Q-Post Chief Operating Officer Alan Gairns, Director of Finance Mohamed Jaber al-Naemi and Deputy Director of Marketing Khalid Jassim al-Emadi also attended the signing ceremony.
Speaking later to Gulf Times, Prabhosh Saha said the Bangladesh Post has a strong network of over 10,000 post offices spread across the country and their expatriates in Qatar would be able to make instant monetary remittances to the branch nearest to their homes.
Currently, the service will be available at 2,750 branches of the Bangladesh Post, he said while adding that they would extend services to all the branches in the coming months.
Each remittance would cost the sender QR13. While remitting the money, the sender would be issued a password which he needs to pass on to the beneficiary at the receiving end, it was revealed.
Inquiries with Bangladesh officials found that country’s expatriates numbered around 220,000 in Qatar, with the number expected to increase in the coming years.
Initially, the remittance facilities would be available from only four branches of the Q-Post, the General Post Office, Al Khor, Al-Attiya Market (Doha Industrial Area) and Mesaieed, with the services to be extended soon.
