HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani held yesterday a telephone conversation with Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan.
Discussions during the call dealt with the relations between Qatar and the UAE as well as regional and international issues of common concern.

Emir sends condolences to Kuwaiti leader
HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, HH Deputy Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani have sent cables to the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah condoling the death of Sheikha Najma al-Abdullah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah.

Condolences sent to Bahrain king

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani have sent cables to King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifah of Bahrain condoling the death of Sheikh Isa bin Ali bin Hamad al-Khalifah.

Qatar-Chad ties reviewed
HE the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) Dr Ghaith bin Mubarak al-Kuwari yesterday held talks with the Minister of National Education of Chad Ahmed Ghazali Aseel.

2008-2012 Chevrolet Cruzes recalled

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) yesterday announced the recall of 2008-2012 models of Chevrolet Cruze for potential sidewall cracking and broken ply cords, Qatar News Agency reported.  
The Ministry said the recall comes within the framework of ongoing campaign to ascertain the extent of car dealerships’ commitment to following up on vehicles’ defects and repairing them to protect consumer rights.
The ministry also stressed that it would co-ordinate with the dealership to follow up on maintenance and repair operations and communicate with customers to ensure implementation of the procedures to fix defects.  
The MEC has urged consumers to report any irregularities to the Department of Consumer Protection and Commercial Fraud Combat through its different communication channels.

9 tonnes of rotten fruits destroyed

Inspectors from the food control unit of the Central Market, Doha Municipality, have destroyed over 9 tonnes of imported fruits as they were found unfit for human consumption.  Mohamed Ahmed al-Sayyed, head of the Health Control Section, said the matter came to light during a through check of fruits at the market. “During an inspection at the Central Market it was noticed that some fruits appeared intact in terms of colour, appearance and odour. However, an examination revealed that they were unfit for human consumption,” he explained. The rotten fruits included 400 Lebanese watermelons, each weighing 8kg, 567 boxes of Turkish plum, weighing 2kg each, 1,190 boxes of Syrian peach weighing 2kg each, and 1,200 boxes of Syrian nectarine, weighing 2kg each.

SCH survey on hepatitis vaccination programme
The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) will conduct a national survey to assess the consequences of the Hepatitis B vaccination programme for students of class I.  It would start from the end of November and will go on for three months. The survey, conducted in co-operation with the World Health Organisation (WHO), aims at assessing the success of the vaccination process at such an age  and measure the spread of the disease among the children who were born after the programme was launched. The target sample of the survey includes around 3,798 students selected randomly and aged between 6-9 years from 55 public and private schools across the country.


Elaibaib health centre to open next month

The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has announced that the opening of the Elaibaib Health Centre will be held on December 13, under the auspices of HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, the Prime Minister and Interior Minister and the director of Supreme Council of Health. The opening of the new health centre comes in line with Qatar National Day celebration activities. The Elaibaib Health Centre will be the first new health centre which will include several clinics.

Road closures, diversions announced
The Public Works Authority, Ashghal has announced that the entrance to Al Hawsaa and Umm Qayn streets from New Al Rayyan Road and which lead to Luaib area will be closed from today for nine months. During this period, vehicles can access Al Hawsaa and Umm Qayn streets by using Al Shaheeniya Street as shown in the map.  The temporary closure is to allow the construction of a cable tunnel to protect infrastructure services such as Kahramaa cables, communication lines and other utilities as part of the construction and upgrade of Al Rayyan Road. Ashghal will install road signs to inform motorists of the diversion. The authority has requested all road users to abide by the speed limits, and to follow the road signs to ensure safety.


Kahramaa workshop for clerics

Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has held a workshop for clerics and imams on spreading awareness among people about the need to rationalise the use of resources.
The two-day workshop was conducted at Kahramaa Awareness Park in co-operation with the Ministry of Endowment and Islamic Affairs.
The workshop trained the participants on how to promote a culture of conservation of water and electricity among mosque-goers, urging them to use such resources wisely to ensure sustainable development.
