Some 1,400 youth and other individuals benefited from Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) series of lectures and training on first-aid for the local community of Al Shamal held at schools and social centres in the area.
The initiative, spearheaded by QRCS’s Al Khor branch, also engaged male and female participants to the ‘Safe Journey Exhibition.’
Under the ‘I Am a Paramedic’ programme of QRCS and sponsored by Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme, four health awareness lectures were organised for 450 students of Umm Salal Ali Model Independent School for Boys, Simaisma Primary School for Boys, and Simaisma Preparatory School for Boys.
QRCS trained young students how to apply first aid to persons suffering from fracture, wound, or nosebleed.
Part of its health education session, QRCS also conducted two lectures focusing on personal hygiene, common diseases and preventive precautions for 450 students of Grades 1 to 6 of Al-Khor Model School for Boys and Umm Salal Ali Model Independent School for Boys.
A lecture covering good nutrition guidelines and the impact of malnutrition was delivered by Dr Mohalal Mohamed Ahmed for teachers and parents at Umm Salal Model Kindergarten for Boys.
In the two-day Safe Journey exhibition held at Al-Shamal Sports Club and Al-Thakhira Youth Center, QRCS set up a special corner to promote its activities and services to students and distribute health education printouts. More than 500 visitors also benefited from the free blood testing at the event.
