The GCC states have reaffirmed their commitment to the spirit and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the global body.
Qatar’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Abdurrahman Yaqoub al-Hammadi delivered a statement on behalf of the GCC member-states before the 70th session of the UN General Assembly meeting.
Al-Hammadi said that signing the Charter of the United Nations was a historic event. The founding of the United Nations was a turning point in international relations, and the beginning of a historic stage to find a balanced international environment to achieve peace and prosperity for the peoples and to promote human dignity.
He said that the United Nations has succeeded in saving the lives of millions of people. However, several crucial issues remain without solution, in particular the Palestinian cause.
