Fifty Qatari nationals are among 109 new students at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q)

This is the highest Qatari enrolment in an incoming class since CMU-Q opened its doors in 2004, the university has said in a statement.
“We are delighted to welcome a diverse group of new students, including the largest number of incoming Qataris to date. This promises to be a busy and successful academic year as we continue to shape the next generation of leaders in Qatar,” said Ilker Baybars, dean of Carnegie Mellon Qatar.
CMU-Q, a part of Qatar Foundation, has grown from an inaugural class of 41 students in 2004 to a total of 414 students this year, with the student body representings 37 nationalities. Forty-one per cent of all enrolled CMU-Q students are Qatari nationals, the statement notes.
CMU-Q students are enrolled in one of four programmes: 164 are in business administration, 106 in information systems, 89 in computer science and 55 in biological sciences, two of whom are majoring in computational biology.
The university is receiving applications for the 2016/17 academic year and students have been encouraged to apply early. The application deadline for 2016/17 is March 1, 2016.
