A Doha-based Indian businessman has come forward to bear the expenses for repatriating the body of
Abdul Khader Meeran, whose death was reported in Gulf Times on Saturday.
Meeran, an Indian expatriate, died of a heart attack on September 23. He had last visited home in “2001 or 2002”, according to sources.
Shamsudheen Olakara, chairman of Quality Group International, yesterday informed this newspaper that he would bear the entire cost of sending Meeran’s body to India.
Olakara said he learnt about the matter through Gulf Times and asked his friend and humanitarian worker Abdul Salam Palakkad to complete the procedures for sending the body by today. Olakara is also providing a ticket to the person accompanying the body.
“All documentation and other formalities have been completed and the body will be sent to Tamil Nadu (in India) this evening,” Abdul Salam said yesterday.
Aboobecker, who works as driver in a local household and a relative of Meeran, will accompany the body.
Abdul Salam said some members of the Indian community have also come forward with offers of financial assistance for Meeran’s family.
Meeran leaves behind his wife Saithunbeevi and five daughters. It is understood that the deceased could attend the marriage of only the eldest daughter during his last visit to his native place over a decade ago. All the daughters are married.
Meeran, who was eking out a living by doing odd jobs, died at his accommodation on Street 18, Industrial Area.
