The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Sunday that more than 32,000 people, including families, employees and workers, attended the cultural and entertainment events it had organised for the Indian, Sri Lankan, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Nepalese communities as well as residents of Al Khor and Ras Laffan and surrounding areas during the Eid al-Adha holidays.
The MoI held six mega events on the three Eid days for workers and expatriate families in Doha, Wakrah and Al Khor. The programme concluded with an event for the Bangladeshi community at the Wakrah indoor stadium, Al Wakrah Sports Club, on Saturday evening.
More than 2,000 people from the Bangladeshi community, including families and employees and workers of companies, attended the show. Musical items, cultural performances, folklore shows and dance recitals were part of the event.
The ministry also held cultural events for the Al Khor, Ras Laffan and Nepalese communities on the first and second days of Eid at the Barwa Workers’ Sports Complex in Al Khor Industrial Area.
Some 20,000 people gathered at the Al Khor Workers’ Sports Complex to mark the celebratory occasion on the first and second days of Eid, from 5pm to 10pm.
Events for the Indian community were held at MES Indian School on the first day of Eid, while Stafford Sri Lankan School hosted shows for the Sri Lankan community on the same day.
More than 4,000 people from different states of India and other Asian countries attended the Indian community celebration. Also, more than 2,000 Sri Lankans and citizens of other Asian countries attended the event for the Sri Lankan community.
The Eid celebration for the Pakistani community was staged at the Wakrah indoor stadium on the second day of Eid, from 5pm to 9.30pm, and more than 4,000 members from the Asian community were present at the event.
Community leaders and members of the public have expressed pleasure at the Eid programme and extended their gratitude to the MoI for the initiative, the ministry noted in a statement.
