Qatar Charity (QC)’s Centre for Society Development at Al Rayyan’s Gharafa Centre for Boys has held a number of events for participants of an educational summer camp titled Maharat Mofeeda (Useful Skills).
The camp included different sports, educational and scouting activities, which saw the enthusiastic participation of students and their supervisors.
The initiative was marked by a high degree of discipline, co-operation, friendly relations and the application of values that the centre had already taught the students.
A number of activities focusing on physical fitness and motor skills were organised as part of the camp. For example, in co-operation with trainers from the Al Kharaitiyat sports centre, a programme was held with the aim of teaching football skills and developing proper attitudes among players.
The students were lectured on how a Muslim player should behave, especially during competitions, and were trained in some football skills.
In addition, the students attended a workshop on the goals of scouting and related activities. They also received training for scouting knots and other skills.
As part of its summer programme, Saifuna Ahla (Our summer is more beautiful), the centre organised an educational field trip to a garage in the Industrial Area, where the students learned about car repair equipment and methods.
The students’ parents lauded the initiatives and stressed that such camps helped assess students’ accomplishments and also provided an opportunity to test their behaviour.
Ramadan Abdul-Aziz, the centre’s supervisor, held a course for the students on the importance of participation and the objectives. He also highlighted the importance of these camps.
The students were divided into groups based on their age. Each group was assigned a supervisor.
All students had the chance to take part in the sports competitions and the supervisors monitored the students’ conduct and their interaction with each other to assess their progress.
One of the courses taught the students basic skills of drawing and wood-carving, delivered by Abdul-Aziz.
The second was a theoretical course on how to deal with cars and to fix simple mechanical problems, delivered by Sultan al-Meer.
QC’s society development centres recently announced the launch of summer programmes and camps, including Saifuna Ahla for boys at Al Rayyan’s Gharafa Centre, Istamti and T’alam (Enjoy and learn) for boys at Al Khor, Hayati Hadaf (My life is a goal) for girls at Al Khor and L’ali’ and Marjan 6 (Pearls and corals 6) for girls at Al Rayyan.
These camps are part of QC’s society development centres’ efforts to organise useful activities during the summer, which combine entertainment with the development of mental and physical abilities. Hundreds of boys and girls have benefited from them.
