UN under-secretary-general and emergency relief co-ordinator Stephen O’Brien with Qatar’s ambassador Salem bin Mubarak al-Shafi.

UN under-secretary-general and emergency relief co-ordinator, Stephen O’Brien, and his accompanying delegation yesterday paid  a visit to Qatar’s embassy in Turkey.
During the visit, O’Brien met with Qatar’s ambassador, Salem bin Mubarak al-Shafi.
They discussed ways to develop co-operation and co-ordination between Qatar and UN humanitarian organisations and reviewed the humanitarian situation of the refugees in a number of countries in the region as well as relief efforts.
O’Brien extended, on the occasion, his thanks to Qatar for its positive position toward the Syrian issue and the Syrian people, and for the continued support of the UN and its competent agencies, praising Qatar’s fulfilment of all its humanitarian obligations to various international organisations.
He also lauded Qatar’s support for Syrian refugees and the displaced inside and outside Syria as well as the assistance provided by the state to those affected by humanitarian crises.
The ambassador congratulated O’Brien on the occasion of his recent appointment and wished him success in his duties, while looking forward to co-operate with him in his new humanitarian mission.
