There is a need for more direct communication between parents and teachers to follow up the development of students, around 94% of parents who participated in a survey conducted online by local Arabic daily Arrayah said.
The results of the survey, which covered the opinions and expectations of parents regarding the proper ways to improve the performance of students, was published yesterday in the daily.
Most parents were of the view that communication with schools through e-mails and SMS alone is not an effective method to attain the required targets. Around 90% of the participants saw that close follow up of parents to their children progress at schools is very necessary to advance their academic levels.
A total of 73% of the participants saw that parents forums and councils at schools were not effective in giving parents more active role in the education progress as these meet only twice a year. There is a need for more frequent meetings to resolve pending issues and discuss related suggestions on regular basis.
About 66% of the participants observed that schools do not maintain good and adequate communication with parents. Only 39% saw that school managements communicate well with parents regarding their children’s education issues.
A considerable number of Arab parents with children at private and international schools were concerned that schools sends them messages in English, which causes them difficulty in following up the progress of their children.
