The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has said it is implementing a number of initiatives as part of its investment in developing the skills and competencies of Qataris.
This is being done to achieve the goals of the Human Development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, the authority has stressed in a statement.
Ashghal has continued to focus on strengthening national managerial competencies. It does so by developing infrastructure, buildings and public facilities across the country in accordance with a long-term strategy and a clear development plan.
“The authority attaches great importance to upgrading people’s skills as it is a key component of any successful organisation and an indispensable tool for achieving our goals,” the statement notes.
“We believe that the competency of managers and employees is the common factor across the authority’s corporate strategy… from customer centricity, which requires a trained and dedicated work team, to strategic partnerships and executive affairs, through sustainable growth and speed of response.”
In order to achieve high levels of efficiency by taking advantage of experiences in adjusting and improving the team’s work, Ashghal is keen to develop short- and long- term plans and programmes and optimally exploit modern technologies to support these programmes, the statement further points out.
“This paves the way for Ashghal to be ready for change and be able to adapt to the fast implementation of its projects, thus providing an added value to its work.”
As part of the development of individuals and competencies, Ashghal has adopted a set of programmes specialised in team-building, most notably the Individual Development Plans, which are prepared and implemented for all Qatari employees. So far, 80% has been achieved as part of an initial two-year plan (2014-2016) that is subject to renewal.
Other key programmes, courses and training workshops conducted by Ashghal at various levels include the leadership skills development programme, internal training courses, courses aimed at fighting corruption and crimes pertaining to public money, a security and safety control course, a management of construction implementation on main roads and highways course, workshops on training skills improvement, the promotion of innovation and change programme, the project management professional course, workshops on project management for non-specialists, the value engineering course, the work planning and time management course and a course to enhance co-ordination and interaction skills between departments.
In addition, entities co-operating with Qatar University (QU) in the field of worker capacity development were honoured, with Ashghal receiving an award in recognition of its efforts in this field.
The statement further notes that Ashghal sends its employees to the Continuing Education Office at QU throughout the year to participate in administrative and individual skills development courses.
Mohamed Mubarak al-Qahtani, head of training and development in the authority, received the award on behalf of Ashghal.
Ashghal’s programmes and plans for cadres’ development are a part of the overall organisational development strategy, which operates at all levels of the authority.
