There is an urgent need to build a new road that will provide an alternative to February 22 Street and prevent congestion there, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported, quoting citizens and experts.
The daily spoke to a number of people, who felt that a comprehensive study should be conducted to come up with a viable, long-term solution. This mainly includes building an alternative road that will allow people to commute without having to pass through busy city areas.
Ahmed al-Jolo, chairman of the Qatar Society of Engineers, said short-term measures would not be effective and there was a pressing need for permanent solutions based on technical and specialised studies of the situation on the ground.
He stressed that expansion of the road was “practically impossible” and construction of a “parallel road” could be a costly and complicated process. The most viable option is to build a new road that goes around Doha, and not through it, connecting different parts of the country.
