Qatar’s ambassador to Nepal, Ahmed Jassim al-Hamar, has received the National Press Club of Nepal (NPCN) Award from the Vice-President of the country, Parmanand Jha.
The award was presented to Ambassador al-Hamar during a session organised by the Press Club under the theme: “The Role of Foreign Missions and Media in Rebuilding Process” in honour of ambassadors of the countries that provided generous assistance to Nepal in the wake of the devastating earthquakes that struck the country on 25 April and 15 May this year.
In a speech delivered on this occasion, the vice-president of Nepal thanked the friendly countries for their support for the people of Nepal during the two disastrous earthquakes, and the NPCN for this initiative to honour the ambassadors of the countries which provided relief, recovery and reconstruction assistance, stressing the importance of enhancing friendly relations with those countries.
For his part, al-Hamar, in his speech on the occasion, thanked the NPCN for this initiative, praising the vice-president of Nepal’s participation at this event as a guest of honour.
He praised the strong relations between Qatar and Nepal, saying: “Based on these relationships, the State of Qatar was among the first countries that took the initiative to help Nepal.”
He briefly reviewed the assistance provided by several Qatari charitable and humanitarian organisations, including the Qatar Red Crescent, which set up a field hospital in Nagarkot province since May 4 and will continue over the next three months, to provide potable water for more than 300,000 people, as well as food, tents, generators, medical supplies and medicines.
He stressed that the Nepalese people can overcome such adversity and contribute steadily in the reconstruction of the country, praising the Nepali people’s discipline, order and national responsibility toward their country stemming from the ethical and national values of the Nepalese people.
