One-year jail for providing incorrect document
A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a man to a year’s suspended jail term for providing an incorrect and misleading document in a property-related case,  Arrayah has reported.
The man had sold a house to a company but later claimed that he was not paid in full. He continued to live in the house, this time as a tenant. Meanwhile, he submitted an old ownership document to Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) to change his status from tenant to owner of the house.
The company sold the house - without informing him - to a woman. When the woman wanted to obtain a certificate from Kahramaa to get her children admitted to a nearby school, her request was rejected based on information in the database, which showed that the house was in someone else’s name. Her husband then filed a complaint.
Meanwhile, there was a related case in the Rental Disputes Committee over the man’s eviction from the house. The dispute was not yet resolved when the case involving the document came to light. Eventually, the court established the guilt of the man and gave him a suspended jail sentence.
