Reach Out to Asia (Rota) volunteers celebrated Garangao with paediatric patients at Al Wakra Hospital and Hamad General Hospital recently.
The initiative was part of Rota’s Ramadan 2015 Project.
The festivities were funded by Occidental Petroleum Corporation (Oxy Qatar), exclusive sponsor of the project.
As a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, Rota believes in the importance of unlocking human potential as well as the development and power of human capacities,
according to a statement.
Rota’s annual Ramadan Project aims to raise local awareness about the value of volunteerism and community service, and is aligned with the human and social development pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030.
For the ninth consecutive year, Rota volunteers shared Garangao celebrations with children at Hamad General Hospital. This year was the first time that Rota included Al Wakra Hospital in its Ramadan 2015 Project.
Around 40 Rota volunteers took part in the festivities, interacting with children in both the inpatient and outpatient wards, spreading happiness and distributing toys.
Essa al-Mannai, executive director of Rota, said: “Reach Out to Asia continues to carry out its Garangao activities in order to cheer up children with various medical conditions. I thank Allah for the positivity and determination of Rota’s volunteers to give back to those in need.
“I would like to thank officials at Hamad General Hospital and Al Wakra Hospital for enabling us to reach these children. I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to Occidental Petroleum Corporation, exclusive sponsor for our Ramadan 2015 Project. Oxy has been an invaluable partner over the past four years in supporting Rota’s community development initiatives.”
