Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has opened applications for its third annual Gateway to College summer programme.
Aimed at preparing young Qatari students for university, the intensive one-week programme engages students entering grades 8 and 9 in activities specifically designed to build the skills needed during their academic years.
Programme participants from both private and independent schools will be instructed to “work collaboratively and think innovatively” as they explore course
material.
HBKU is a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community
Development.
In partnership with Qatar Science & Technology Park, this year’s workshops will run from August 30 to September 3 at the HBKU Student Centre and explore three major concepts: teamwork, entrepreneurship and business
planning.
Students will be confronted with a variety of business challenges, and with guidance from their instructors, be responsible for finding and assessing solutions. Teachers include current Education City students as well as alumni, in addition to staff from HBKU and its partner universities.
“This is a unique experience that will help students understand the concept of entrepreneurship and business planning from an early age. Last year, the programme received close to 100 applications, with 44 students admitted. Not only do students learn academic skills, but they also gain confidence in public speaking and debate,” said Mana al-Ansari from HBKU Student
Recruitment.
In line with the aim to guide and prepare Qatari youth for study at HBKU and the branch campuses located within Education City, Gateway to College is one of a number of programmes and activities held by HBKU Student Recruitment to support students, their families and school administrators.
Online registration is now open and interested students can visit www.hbku.edu.qa/sp2015 to apply, with early applications given priority due to limited space.
The application deadline is August 1, with interviews to be conducted from August 2 to 6.
