FM receives invitation to attend Oslo Education Summit
HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah has received an official invitation from Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende to attend Oslo Summit on Education for Development, due to be held in the Norwegian Capital this month.
HE Assistant Foreign Minister for International Co-operation Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdurrahman bin Jassim al-Thani received the invitation during a meeting yesterday with the non-resident ambassador of Norway to Qatar Sten Anders Berge.

National Day greetings
HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior  Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani sent cables of congratulations to the Governor General of Canada David Lloyd Johnston on his country’s National Day.


Venezuelan ambassador presents credentials to Foreign Minister
HE Foreign Minister Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah received yesterday credentials of the ambassador of Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Qatar, Julian Rivas.
The minister wished the Venezuelan ambassador success in his mission and for the bilateral relations between the two countries further development and growth.
The presentation of credential was attended by a number of officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Network snag hits Doha Bank customers
A large number of Doha Bank customers were affected as they were not able to withdraw cash or use cards for purchases due to a technical glitch yesterday.
Several customers said Doha Bank’s ATMs across Doha remained “offline” since yesterday morning as the network was “inaccessible”.
“I was inconvenienced because my salary was credited only yesterday. Because of month-end, I did not have much cash either. My Doha Bank cards did not go through at the POS in a leading hypermarket yesterday,” a resident said.
Doha Bank said its nationwide network would be “restored at the earliest”.
“The point of sale was the first to be restored and we have seen many POS transactions already today,” said a senior bank executive.

Assistant Foreign Minister meets envoys of Japan and Italy
HE Assistant Foreign Minister for International Co-operation Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdurrahman bin Jassim al-Thani met separately yesterday with Japan’s ambassador to Qatar Shingo Tsuda, and Italy’s ambassador to Qatar Guido De Sanctis.
Talks during the meetings covered bilateral relations and ways of enhancing mutual co-operation, as well as issues of common concern.

Rayyan Park closed for renovation
As part of the ongoing work on Al Rayyan project, Al Rayyan Park (Al Busat Al Akhdar) adjacent to Al Rayyan Road will be closed to the public from tomorrow.
During the closure, renovation work will be carried out. Work is expected to be completed towards the end of this year.
A section of the park was closed on December 30 last year to carry out an upgrading work.
The renovation will be done on some of the existing facilities at the park. They include the fence, the walkways and the lighting system. A jogging track will also be built at the park.
