The Ministry of Environment (MoE) has appreciated the contributions of the Indian community for the 2015 National Environment Day awareness campaigns and honoured the officials of Indian Community Centre (ICC) at a special event recently.
HE Ahmed Amer Mohamed al-Humaidi, Minister of Environment, presented appreciation mementos to the office-bearers of ICC at the event.
The meeting was attended by Abdullah Mohamed al-Kuwari, director of Environmental Education and Awareness Department, MoE, and Muhsen Zayed al- Khayarin,  MoE, director of Public Relations and Communication Department, MoE.
ICC officials, Girish Kumar, president, Seenu Sundararajan Pillai, vice-president, Divakar Poojari, general secretary and Abookattil, head of Consular and Affiliation, represented the organisation at the event.
Al-Khayarin, MoE, expressed the gratitude towards the community for joining hands with MoE for National Environmental Awareness campaigns.
He stated that Filipino Community Centre and Nepali Community Centre have come forward to be part of the 2016 campaigns.
Indian Community Centre  officials briefed the minister about the future plan of action in organising the environment events through various socio-cultural organisations, professional group “Green Captain Forum” in co-operation with international communities.
During the meeting, ICC requested the ministry to provide a suitable place for building permanent facilities for Indian community to co-ordinate environmental awareness campaigns and events.
In response to this, Abdullah al-Kuwari said it will be considered as part of the ministry’s ongoing environmental awareness and community outreach strategy.
