Since the start of the holy month, Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) volunteers have worked continuously to conduct a number of activities under the Ramadan campaign.
The volunteers participated in various events and programmes conducted by other QRC departments. For the fourth consecutive year, the volunteers division is implementing its Ramadan Iftar programme.
They distribute about 150 Iftar meals a day (4,500 meals throughout Ramadan) as well as water and juice bottles and sweets to municipal workers at the Industrial Area. It is done in partnership with The Ritz-Carlton Doha.
Another 750 Iftar meals, given by Crowne Plaza Doha, will be distributed on certain days of Ramadan. QRC said these distributions are expected to serve 5,250 cleaning workers.
In addition, the volunteers distribute water and juice bottles, dates, and nuts at the Grand Mosque during the Iftar time, in co-operation with The Ritz-Carlton Doha and The Torch Doha.
They also help other QRC departments to organise their events and programmes such as ‘This Is My Wish’ to fulfil the wishes of ill children treated at hospitals; ‘Recite and Ascend’ to honour students who memorise the Qur’an; ‘Outstanding Students’ to honour students with high academic achievements; and other events.
QRC’s director of Social Development Department Rashid bin Saad al-Mohannadi said some 4,500 Doha municipal workers received healthy food, water bottles and dates from QRC for the fourth Ramadan in a row.
“It is a noble humanitarian message that embodies the spirit of solidarity in the Qatari society and reflects QRC’s slogan of Saving Lives and Preserving Dignity,” he noted.
Al-Mohannadi commended the initiative by the hotels to sponsor the programme.
He hopes such partnerships will continue, citing the programmes’ positive impact on all segments of society which play “a great role in improving the lives of workers, who work in heat to serve the public.”
These activities are part of QRC’s Ramadan Iftar programme in Qatar with a total budget of QR2,175,000.
