Qatar has condemned in the strongest possible terms the dire human rights violations in Syria in light of the atrocities of the Assad regime against the Syrian people who are demanding freedom, justice and democracy.
Addressing the 29th session of the Human Rights Council, under the title “Interactive dialogue with the International Independent Investigation Commission on the Syrian Arab Republic,”  Jassim al-Maawda, Second Secretary of  Qatar’s Permanent Mission in Geneva,  said the Assad regime is  committing  genocide and mass siege and causing displacement of people and destruction of property using heavy weapons, explosives such as barrel bombs and toxic gases such as  chlorine gas.
It is as well committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, only to cling on to power even after losing its legitimacy.
It said more than two-thirds of the Syrian territories were now outside the regime’s control, a matter  which contributed to the growth of extremist ideology and terrorist groups.
Al-Maawda denounced the Syrian authorities’ continued rejection of allowing the International Commission of Inquiry to enter the Syrian territories to implement the mandate entrusted to them.
He stressed the importance of accountability for all those responsible for human rights violations, war crimes and crimes against humanity in Syria and the need to bring them to justice.
