HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani yesterday issued Decision No 13 of 2015 appointing Sheikh Saif bin Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani as the director of the Government Communication Office. The decision is effective starting from its date of issue and is to be published in the Official Gazette.

NHRC chairman meets envoys

National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Chairman Dr Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri yesterday met Bangladeshi ambassador to Doha Sayyed Massoud Mahmoud.
They reviewed ways to enhance co-operation in issues of common concern as well as the exchange of expertise and experiences in the field of human rights.
Al-Marri also met Syrian ambassador to Doha Nizar Al Haraki. They reviewed aspects of co-operation in the humanitarian field and mechanisms of extending bridges of communication between the two sides to promote the culture of human rights.
The NHRC chairman also met Ethiopian ambassador to Qatar Mesganu Arga Moach. They reiterated the need to exchange experiences and continue to communicate about all the humanitarian issues and set the required mechanisms to promote them.

National Day greetings

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani and  HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani have sent cables of congratulations to President of Iceland Dr Olafur Ragnar on his country’s National Day.


Indian embassy to mark International Yoga Day

The Indian embassy is organising, with the support and co-operation of Ministry of Youth and Sports of Qatar and Indian Cultural Centre and other community fora, a public celebration of the first International Day of Yoga on June 21 at 9pm at Al Arabi Sports Club.
The programme will include speeches by Qatari dignitaries and the Indian ambassador, release of a commemorative stamp issued by Q-Post on the occasion of International Day of Yoga, a short film and demonstration by Yoga experts.
All Qatar residents are invited for the event. Dress code for this occasion is informal and in conformity with local customs. Attendees are requested to bring a photo identity card.
Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, in his address to the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 27, 2014 had called upon the UN member states to work towards adopting an International Day of Yoga.
