Amlak’s al-Emadi receives the award for QNCC recently from HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada as Kahramaa president Essa bin Hilal al-Kuwari looks on.

Amlak, the Qatari holding company which manages a strategic portfolio of assets, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), through the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed).
The objective is to strengthen their common interest in preserving the natural resources in the country, particularly  regarding the conservation and efficient use of water and electricity in the tourism industry, for the economic and social benefits of present and future generations.
Launched in 2000 by Kahramaa, the frontal organisation that caters to the country’s electricity and water needs, Tarsheed ensures its sustainability by operating according to global best practice standards. This is in line with the conservation goals set out by the Qatar National Vision 2030 to protect the environment so that harmony and consistency of the economic, social and environment development is ensured.
Kahramaa’s Customer Services, Conservation and Energy Efficiency manager  Ali M al-Ali said the collaboration with Amlak under Tarsheed provides an excellent opportunity for both entities to raise the bar when it comes to  efficient energy use in the tourism sector.
“One of our goals is to achieve a 35% reduction the use of water and 20% in electricity per person. We are following the best practice standards of all developed countries that are now adopting and implementing green tourism systems,” he said.
As an active member of the Qatar community, Amlak considers sustainability in every project it manages with a goal of contributing to the Qatar National Vision 2030. By creating a balance between its scope of business and development, and the protection of its natural environment, Amlak reinforces its commitment to the environment by creating a green footprint in the sustainable future of Qatar.
Amlak CEO Abdul Aziz al-Emadi observed that the MoU will enable the company to further increase its role in protecting the country’s environment.
“Our colleagues will benefit from the insights provided by Tarsheed, and implement successful sustainability models throughout our organisation and its entities,” he said.
Under the MoU, Amlak and Kahramaa will join together on a number of projects with the aim of promoting energy efficiency, environmental protection and energy consumption conservation.
Under the umbrella of Tarsheed, a new award category will be announced later in the year. Tarsheed will host all events related to the award at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), which is operated by Amlak.
In addition, the parties will form a committee that will provide technical solutions, conduct energy audits and educate a variety of industries to become more energy efficient. Kahramaa  will also engage Tarsheed to develop training programmes for the Amlak operations team at the QNCC on energy efficiency practices.
In recognition of its sustainability accomplishments, an entity of Amlak, QNCC was awarded the Best Conserving Building Award by Tarsheed, earlier this year.
