Hamad Medical Corporation’s Al Wakra Hospital successfully replaced its existing paper patient clinical records system with a new electronic Clinical Information System (CIS) over the weekend, it was announced yesterday.
Al Wakra Hospital is the fifth HMC hospital, and third this year, to go live with CIS - a comprehensive system designed in collaboration with clinicians.
The transition from paper to electronic records will require staff to gather and enter additional information from patients and this may mean appointments could take a little longer than usual in the early stages of implementation, the HMC said in a statement.
To ensure that patients’ experiences are as smooth as possible, the Al Wakra CIS team has put a number of processes in place, but also asked for patients’ understanding and co-operation during the transition period, the statement added.
Wilson Ross, CEO of Al Wakra Hospital, explained that his team and the hospital staff were looking forward to working with the new system and excited about the implementation.
“The CIS programme will ensure that all clinical information on patients is available at the point of care. This will result in high-quality care and reduce clinical risk. CIS will streamline patient care and contribute to better overall outcomes; as such, we are very excited for this important rollout.”
