Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has implemented several health education and training activities and programmes for Qatari society members of various ages and from different walks of life by participating in public events and conducting health education lectures and first-aid training courses in different civil society organisations, with a total of 1,410 beneficiaries.
As part of the first phase of the National Communicable Disease Prevention Campaign (Weqaya), extended indefinitely in partnership with the Supreme Council of Health, 900 workers of Mannai Corporation in the Industrial Area received hygiene kits and were trained in how to best use them, with a view to raising awareness among expatriate workers about having a healthy lifestyle, causes of diseases, prevention techniques and the importance of personal hygiene.
Meanwhile, QRC medical staff members were present at the annual two-day Qafco Flower & Vegetable Show and World Day for Safety and Health at Work in co-operation with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, with up to 200 attendees.
A special QRC corner was set up to receive visitors, inform them about the organisation and its role in society, train groups of visitors in first aid, distribute diverse health education printouts, recruit volunteers, give advice on various health and preventive topics, perform blood sugar and pressure tests for free, distribute QRC gifts to the public and network with representatives of the participating organisations to expand the community scope of joint work.
Under the QRC School Programme, the organisation held six lectures on healthy dieting, personal hygiene, oral and dental health and first-aid applications. The lectures were attended by 250 students, teachers and parents at seven schools.
Dr Ahmed Mohamed Dib Adalbi, head of QRC’s health education, was hosted in four episodes of the 'Learn First Aid' series on Qatar Quran Radio. He talked about QRC’s medical activities and provided useful health information of public concern.
Finally, QRC organised four first-aid courses for 60 beneficiaries at different companies and institutions in Qatar. The trainees gained experience and knowledge, including background information about QRC and basic training in first aid, surface water rescue and cardiopulmonary resuscitation; how to deal with cases of suffocation, bleeding, injury, fracture, burn, epilepsy, poisoning and heat exhaustion; and techniques of moving injured people.
