The annual Middle East Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare concluded following three days of intensive workshops and plenary addresses. Over 2,500 healthcare professionals from across Qatar and the Middle East region attended the event, organised by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).
Key speakers at this year’s forum included well-known Harvard professor, Don Berwick, Canadian astronaut and physician, Dafydd Williams, and veteran Formula One racing stalwart, Mark Gallagher.
Interactive workshops that took place over the three days focused on improvements that hospitals and clinics can make in four key areas: quality and patient safety, patient engagement, clinical interventions and improving patient flows. A total of 6 keynote addresses and 33 workshops were conducted during the forum.
HMC managing director, Dr Hanan al-Kuwari, highlighted the forum’s growing success and praised the work that the Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute  had achieved in its first year.
“We have noticed a significant shift in the level of participation in the forum, which continues to gain momentum as an important venue for discussing patient safety improvements. This was evidenced by the large increase in the number of posters and storyboards submitted in this year’s competition and the overall quality of the initiatives on display,” al-Kuwari said.
A poster and storyboard exhibition of quality and patient safety improvement programmes was held, which saw over 240 initiatives competing for the honour of best initiative. The exhibition also featured a Knowledge Zone which housed interactive display stands from HMC.
