Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) recently concluded a workshop on building leaders in non-profit organisations under the QRC Ladies Forum’s Benevolent Entrepreneurs programme, with funding from Ooredoo as a strategic partner that supports QRC’s humanitarian mission and
activities.
Over five days, 15 female entrepreneurs met with four guest speakers from Qatar, Poland, Lebanon and Bangladesh, who talked about their personal experiences with humanitarian entrepreneurship in education and health
Attending as a guest, Sheikha Hessa bint Khalifa al-Thani, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the Arab League for Humanitarian Affairs, spoke to the participants about her track record in humanitarian action and the biggest challenges she faced.
Sheikha Hessa highlighted the active role of the QRC Ladies Forum in building the capacity of Qatari women in volunteerism and humanitarian action, as well as its work towards QRC’s goal of the sustainable engagement of women in charitable work.
She expressed happiness at seeing young Qatari women who are interested in humanitarian causes and the needs of other nations. “It is good to see leaders in our society, but it is equally important to find those whom we will lead,” she said.
The attendees commended the initiative by the QRC Ladies Forum to recruit and empower young Qatari women to become humanitarian entrepreneurs, seeing this as a big responsibility that needs to be duly
fulfilled.
Certificates were distributed to the participants by QRC.
The Benevolent Entrepreneurs programme is an integrated training initiative targeted at young Qatari women to develop their skills and help them contribute to the society and undertake their social role in serving humanitarian causes of the world.
The programme consists of five topics: non-profit organisation management, strategic planning, senior management leadership, decision-making, and resource mobilisation and allocation.
Among the skills that are dealt with in the programme are personal and professional leadership in women, problem-solving, writing development project proposals, goal-setting, project design and management, financial management and how to ensure transparency and accountability.
