Three Asian expatriates have been sentenced to one year in jail each by a Doha Criminal Court for stealing a sum of QR1.259mn from an office of a travel agency, local daily Arrayah reported yesterday.
The three were spotted in the recording of a surveillance camera. The manager of the office gave his testimony at the court that after he left office one day at noon and returned in the afternoon, he found the sum missing. Accordingly, he reviewed the camera recording and reported the incident to the police.
The Capital Police investigated the case and managed to spot one person in a room in a hotel, where he used to stay when he came to the country. The convict tried to resist his arrest and upon a thorough search of his room different sums in Qatari riyals, euros and dollars were found concealed, some even hidden in the cushion of a chair.
Three passports of the other accused were found with him and they were arrested subsequently. Two of them were proven to be involved in the crime and the third was cleared by the court from the charges of planning for the crime for lack of evidence.
