The Supreme Council of Health has announced a new death caused by Mers-CoV in Qatar.

A 73-year-old Qatari patient who had history of chronic illnesses has died of complications. This is the first death in 2015 among the four newly reported Mers-CoV cases.

The second Mers-CoV case was reported on May 21. The patient is still in hospital in stable condition and receiving appropriate care.

The SCH has urged all public and private healthcare facilities to remain on alert and immediately report any suspected case to Health Protection and Communicable Disease Control Department through the hotline 66740948 or 66740951.

All persons with low immunity or chronic diseases are advised to avoid any close contact with camels and to monitor themselves for fever and respiratory illness and report to health authorities if they develop any of these symptoms.
