Dealers other than exclusive distributors can import vehicles and other goods into Qatar, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) said in a statement yesterday.
This facility helps to promote fair competition in the local market, the ministry said.
Clarifying the protection enjoyed by distributors under Law No 8 for 2002, the ministry said the law guaranteed enforcement of the terms of exclusivity agreed between the distributor and the manufacturer. “It does not mean that other parties cannot bring in these goods from whichever source available ,” the statement said, elaborating on the rules governing monopoly practices in the country.
The ministry said it would launch an intensive inspection campaign to ensure that all automobile  importers were supplying customers all the necessary information . “Sellers  should get the signature of the buyers on a document, acknowledging that the customer has received  information such as source, price, status and specifications of the product.”
The ministry will also launch a number of initiatives to guarantee the enforcement of fair trade practices in the automobile sector, the release added.
