Thousands flocked to the Qatar National Convention Centre yesterday to watch the much-anticipated opening of Disney on Ice presents Princesses and Heroes, which will run until May 30.
The show kicked off with Mickey and Minnie Mouse introducing the story of Aladdin, which was highlighted by performances from Princess Jasmine, Aladdin and the funny antics of Genie.
This was followed by Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, as well as Cinderella, whose routine was accentuated by a grand carriage and her romantic dance with The Prince.
Colourful performances from other Disney characters such as Rapunzel and Flynn, Ariel, Sebastian and Ursula of The Little Mermaid, also enthralled audiences with their flamboyant dances and extravagant stage props.
Smoke, fire and other dazzling special effects also heightened the excitement, especially when Prince Charming rescued Sleeping Beauty from the dragon. Bubbles, larger-than-life butterflies and “real snow” provided a memorable performance during the staging of Frozen.
Almost all the children in the audience could not contain their excitement when Frozen’s Elsa came to the stage but it was Olaf who brought the house down with his adorable rendition of the hit song, “In Summer”.
The show culminated with a grand finale involving all Disney characters and extras, including Tinkerbelle and Goofy.
Sport and Entertainment Solutions founder and CEO Ali Haidary announced earlier that there would be an additional show at 11am tomorrow. A special 25% discount will apply on bronze, silver and gold tickets.
“Our After School Special show has been a huge success with families across Qatar. SES wanted to further extend the gesture by adding a new show. Weekend morning shows usually appeal to families with very young children; therefore, we expect tickets for this show to be snapped up very quickly,” Haidary said.
He added, “Intermission will be extended to allow anyone wishing to attend Friday prayers.”
Produced by Feld Entertainment, Disney on Ice presents Princesses and Heroes is brought to Doha by the Qatar Tourism Authority and its events diary, OnQatar.
Tickets are available at all Virgin Megastores and at www.virginmegastores.qa
