The first edition of the Aspire Fitness Challenge attracted hundreds of young sports enthusiasts, who participated in a series of challenging activities at the Aspire Dome Indoor Athletics Track over the weekend.
A total of 300 adult male participants were narrowed down to 40 athletes during the final stages of the fitness challenge, which involved 60m, 540m and 1,500m runs, sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups, stand jump, medical ball throw, rope-climbing and circuit activity.
Christopher Oktech emerged as the champion of the fitness challenge, while Mohamed Malekt and Amer Nasri finished second and third, respectively.
Skateboarding and BMX athletes competed in a designated area between the Torch Doha and Khalifa Stadium during the two-day event organised by Aspire Zone, in collaboration with Qatar Extreme Sports.
At least 30 skateboarders and 15 BMX riders participated with Guillermo Gonzalez dominating the skateboarding contest, while Lambert Correa took home the prize for the BMX competition.
Aspire Zone events manager Abdulla al-Khater said, “We have come a long way in promoting healthy living and active lifestyles among the Qatari community. We are happy to see the increasing year-on-year interest that is being shown in our events through increased participation.
“This is an indication that our efforts are very entertaining to both the participants and attendees.
We are very optimistic about achieving more and more milestones in the future.”
Al-Khater added, “These events came as part of Aspire Zone’s continuous efforts to support fitness-centred lifestyles and sustain a healthy population by providing open facilities and a variety of year-round, community-focused, world-class sports activities.”
