The road connectivity across Qatar’s western region, notably on the outskirts of Doha, will witness remarkable improvement in the next three to four years, Ashghal officials told a community meeting at Al Rayyan Municipality yesterday.
The meeting was attended by a large number of western Doha residents, businessmen, schools’ operators, Central Municipal Council members and senior government officials working in the region.
Ashghal officials gave a briefing and an audio-visual representation on the roads, infrastructural projects, schools, mosques and health centre projects undertaken in the region and also made a presentation on projects which are already completed and ready for service.
The officials said most of the projects, including a major interchange at Rawdat Al Rashid - which could serve as the vital connecting link from several residential areas on the country’s south western side to the under construction Mall of Qatar - will be completed before 2019.
They also assured the gathering that while implementing the projects in the area maximum efforts have been made to minimise difficulties to the residents and visitors.
They also agreed to meet the residents in the coming months while reviewing the progress of the project and would address such issues as traffic congestion in the areas affected by construction works on a war-footing.
Ashghal, they said, has accorded maximum priority to the safety of the residents of the areas where works are undertaken and the authority is working for effective and long lasting solutions to address the issues faced by the residents. The services of experienced officials, including those from the armed forces, are being utilised, said the officials.
Engineer Nasser al-Kuwari, who heads the Engineering Information Programme  in the region, said the authority’s major projects are implemented after elaborate and extensive deliberations, sometimes even lasting even a year, and experts services are utilised at different levels for their flawless implementation.
While some of the residents said many of their concerns and grievances were never addressed effectively by the authorities concerned, the officials said they are always receptive to their needs, suggestions, proposals and actions on every issue are taken on a priority basis.
