Parents will soon be able to check and monitor the performance of their children in school in real time through the e-Learning Management System (LMS), a senior official of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) has said.
LMS is an integrated learning environment which enables teachers to manage, develop and publish e-Content, helping to improve communication and collaboration between all teachers, parents (or guardians), students and school administrators.
“If parents want to know the status (grades) of their children in school if they attended their classes, it is possible through this system,” said Amal al-Kuwari, director of information technology department at SEC.
She was speaking at a panel discussion earlier this week at the opening of the Qatar Digital Government Forum.
In her presentation, she pointed out that parents will be able to communicate with teachers easily and effectively through modern means of communication such as e-mails or chat through the LMS.
Besides, children’s grades, other information such as school announcements, time tables and schedule of activities or events can also be accessed electronically by parents using smart phones.
“These are all important to parents,” al-Kuwari said, adding that teachers and
students will also benefit from LMS.
SEC wants to raise the level of education and improve the quality of teaching and learning in the country through the e-services under the e-Learning programme.
E-Learning aims to enable the teachers to teach in efficient and creative ways by providing teaching methods that satisfy the needs and students’ variety.
According to the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, LMS is now being implemented 100% in independent schools in Qatar. Approximately 9.5mn transactions were done in March.
Besides SEC, other government entities such as the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP), Public Prosecution, General Authority of Customs, and Supreme Council of Health (SCH) also benefitted from the Qatar Digital Government.
Payment of fines (online) and various applications such as appeals, cessation, and reconsiderations, among others, have become easier and faster. Seven kiosks have been established to serve the needs of Qatar residents.
At MMUP, securing building permits also became more convenient through a system which is integrated with all relevant authorities. Electronic requests for permits are being submitted since February 2014. The system also offers several other services such as performance monitoring system, issuance of Efada and building certificates, printing permit service, and online payment, among others.
