HH the Deputy Emir honouring one of the 33 outstanding students along with QU president Prof Sheikha Abdulla al-Misnad.

 

A total of 381 male students graduated from six colleges of Qatar University (QU) yesterday at a ceremony for the Class of 2015 in the presence of HH the Deputy Emir and chairman of QU Board of Regents Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani.
HH the Deputy Emir also honoured 33 outstanding students who achieved GPA of 3.50 and above.
The students received their certificates from QU president Prof Sheikha Abdulla al-Misnad and the respective college deans in the presence of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, HE the Minister of Information and Communications Technology Dr Hessa al-Jaber, HE the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Dr Abdullah Saleh Mubarak al-Khulaifi, high-level leaders of top organisations in Qatar, as well as QU vice presidents and associate vice presidents, deans, guests, heads of department, faculty, staff, alumni and students’ relatives.
High-level attendees included Qatar Centre of Leadership board of regents vice chairman and managing director Sheikh Dr Abdullah bin Ali al-Thani, Qatari Businessmen Association chairman HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, Qatar Petroleum managing director Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, Amwal founder and chairperson Sheikha Hanadi bint Nasser bin Khaled al-Thani, Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration board member Sheikh Thani bin Ali al-Thani, General Secretariat for Development Planning director general and Qatar Statistics Authority chairman HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim al-Thani, QU Board of Regents secretary general Prof Abdul-Aziz El-Said El-Bayoumi, and Qafac board director and general manager Nasser Jeham al-Kuwari.
The new graduates comprised 300 Bachelors, 79 Masters, 1 PhD and 1 PharmD. Undergraduate degrees by college were: 46 Arts & Sciences (CAS), 84 Business & Economics (CBE), 124 Engineering (CENG), 22 Law (LAWC), and 24 Sharia & Islamic Studies (CSIS). Graduate degrees by college were 10 CAS, 17 CBE, 5 CED, 32 CENG, 1 CPH and 16 CSIS.
Prof al-Misnad said: “We are proud of you for achieving this milestone of a lifetime which highlights your hard work, commitment and dedication.You will embark on a new and exciting phase of your life as you prepare to join the labour market and pursue other endeavours. We have no doubt that you will continue to serve as loyal ambassadors for the university by utilising the knowledge, skills and experiences you have acquired during your academic journey.”
She expressed her appreciation for HH the Emir’s visionary leadership and remarkable support, saying, “QU has accomplished numerous successes such as achieving accreditation, increasing the number of graduate programmes and research projects based on community needs, which supports national priorities and development strategies on sustainability, health, information technology, social sciences and identity.”
Valedictorian Ahmed al-Faridooni from College of Law congratulated his counterparts saying: “We have waited for this moment since we were school students, and today we are starting a new phase in our lives.We overcame a lot of challenges to realise this successful chapter and we thank Qatar University that gave us high-quality education and the opportunities to excel and unlock our potential, our parents for their continuous support and sacrifice, and our professors for their guidance and contribution in developing our academic and professional abilities and capacities.”
