Doha

Two GCC nationals have been sentenced to a year in jail each and suspension of the driving license of one of them for three months by a Doha misdemeanour court, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.

Both were convicted for attacking an Asian expatriate driver, tying him and shaving off half of his hair, moustache and beard because they claimed that the man had put their lives at risk by wrongly overtaking their vehicle on a highway.

However, the victim affirmed that he was surprised by a vehicle following him and the motorist asking him to stop immediately. Because of the road conditions, he could not stop at once and drove on until he managed to stop at a suitable place.

"They then started to argue with me, insulted me, suddenly tied me up on the back seat of my car and one of them produced a hair cutting machine from his vehicle and wiped off half of my hair, moustache and beard before fleeing the scene," the victim told the court.

Eventually, police managed to arrest the two persons and referred them to the court after investigation and the court established their guilt.
