HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani (below) met yesterday with the GCC Awqaf (Endowments) ministers, who called on them to greet them on the occasion of their second meeting in Doha. HH the Deputy Emir and  HE the Prime Minister expressed hope that their meeting would succeed in reaching a positive outcome that would contribute to further strengthening the GCC joint action.

The second meeting of GCC Awqaf (Endowment) ministers started in Doha yesterday.
The two-day meeting will discuss the major challenges facing those in charge of Awqaf and Islamic affairs in the GCC countries and ways to address them. It will also discuss the proposals of the GCC Awqaf ministers’ assistants who held their first meeting in Doha on March 1.
Opening the meeting, HE the Qatari Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr Ghaith bin Mubarak al-Kuwari delivered a speech welcoming the GCC ministers and wishing the meeting success.
He lauded the keenness and guidance of the GCC leaders on uniting stances, pointing out that this meeting comes at a critical time because of the ongoing developments at the Islamic and international levels.
“More than ever, it has been confirmed that we are called to strengthen solidarity and co-ordination to secure our communities and guard our values against the ideas of extremism threatening our nation,” he said.
Dr al-Kuwari pointed out that the previous meeting held in Kuwait in April last year emphasised the necessity of co-ordination between the ministries and institutions of Awqaf and Islamic affairs in Gulf Co-operation Council countries and strengthening the co-operation to develop their administrative performance.
He stressed that Kuwait meeting resulted in promising prospects for the development and activation of scientific programmes, and achieving integration.
The State of Qatar is honoured to host the second meeting of GCC Awqaf ministers, HE Dr al-Kuwari said extending thanks to Kuwait for chairing the previous session.
He also stressed the keenness for the speedy implementation of what has been agreed upon in the previous meeting and urged all the committees emanating from the meetings to intensify their efforts and continue to innovate and propose new initiatives to serve the endowment sector and Islamic governance in the GCC countries.
The Qatari minister wished that this meeting would contribute to the prosperity and development of joint performance of Awqaf and Islamic affairs under the guidance of the GCC leaders.
