Qatar University (QU) has signed an agreement each with Politecnico di Torino University and Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) to enhance its academic and research portfolio.
The agreement with Politecnico di Torino University, signed by QU College of Engineering (CENG) builds on the one signed between two institutions in 2014. It aims to develop long-term academic and research collaborations, and to address global challenges.
The second agreement between QU Core Curriculum Programme and AAC&U will further enhance the former and ensure it is in line with the best international practices and current trends in the field.
QU president Prof Sheikha Abdulla al-Misnad, vice president and chief academic officer Dr Mazen Hasna, AAC&U vice president Dr Susan Albertine, and Politecnico di Torino University rector Prof Marco Gilli were among those present.
CENG dean Dr Rashid Alamarri described the partnership with Politecnico di Torino University as an important milestone in building the much-required human capacity for engineering and research in Qatar, and in contributing to national ambitions towards a knowledge-based society.
Curriculum Core Programme director Dr Maha al-Hendawi said the partnership with AAC&U will contribute to enhancing the programme, in line with the best international practices and current trends in the field.
The agreements were signed on the occasion of QU’s fourth Study Abroad Fair, held on Monday to provide current and outgoing students with an insight on graduate programmes at academic institutions overseas, and to give them the opportunity to meet university exhibitors and embassy representatives in Qatar who promote study abroad education.
Organised by QU Scholarships and Partnerships Office, the fair is designed to promote specific countries as a destination to national students who are eligible for QU scholarships, as well as QU students who may benefit from scholarships offered by governments to pursue graduate studies at their respective universities.
The event drew wide attendance, including ambassadors Ignacio Escobar (Spain), Park Heung-Kyeong (South Korea), Yvette Burghgraef-van Eechoud (Netherlands), Rossana Cecilia Surballe (Argentinian ambassador), André Dubois (Canada), Ewa Polano (Sweden), Dana Shell Smith (US), Brazilian embassy’s chargé d’affaires Fabio Meneghetti Chaves, Italian embassy’s deputy head of mission Dr Dennis Kumetat, Japanese embassy first secretary Tomoko Watanabe, and Germany embassy first secretary Martin Aeschbacher, as well as QU faculty, researchers and students.
About 400 students visited 30 booths set up in Ibn Khaldoon Hall, and received information material and advice on the merits of studying abroad from the representatives of the participating countries and institutions.
