HE Ahmed Amer Mohamed al-Humaidi inaugurating QU research complex yesterday as Prof Sheikha al-Misnad and other senior officials, researchers and dignitaries look on.

The Minister of Environment HE Ahmed Amer Mohamed al-Humaidi yesterday inaugurated Qatar University’s (QU) research complex at an event held in connection with the annual QU Research Forum.
QU president Prof Sheikha Abdulla al-Misnad, vice president for research Dr Hassan al-Derham, guest speaker Prof Stacey Sorensen (pro-vice-chancellor for research, Lund University, Sweden), other senior officials from QU, researchers and a number of other dignitaries were present.
The state-of-the-art facility houses five of QU’s 14 research centres such as the Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), Centre for Advanced Materials (CAM), Environmental Studies Centre (ESC), Gas Processing Centre (GPC) and Laboratory, Animal Research Centre (LARC).
The development of the multi-million research complex is in line with QU’s growing stature as a leading institution of research quality and excellence and its commitment to Qatar’s research priorities as evidenced by the university’s ambitious research roadmap fielding priority areas of energy, environment and resource sustainability; social change and identity; population, health and wellness; and information, communication and technologies.
The research forum, which featured several strategic topics on the priority areas covering QU research, was also an opportunity to recognise QU staff and students who excelled in their research efforts.
Prof al-Misnad said that the institution has been taking giant strides towards empowering its researchers and students to achieve optimal results, and continued to win the highest percentage of grants under the NPRP and UREP of Qatar National Research Fund.
“We are focusing efforts on developing infrastructure as well as increasing the number of graduate programmes to achieve our strategic goals and contribute to realising the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030. The research complex is one of those efforts,” she added.
