A special committee for speed humps has been formed at the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
Abdulaziz al-Sada, head of Safety Operations and Traffic Control in the Roads Maintenance Department at Ashghal, told the daily that the new body would take over related duties and responsibilities from the Traffic Safety Committee in the Traffic Department, pertaining to approvals and permits required to build speed humps on roads across the country.
Al-Sada pointed out that formation of the committee was aimed at preventing the unauthorised construction of humps, many of which did not conform to standards. Such humps could cause damage to several types of vehicles, it was pointed out.
He said the committee had adopted a “specific mechanism” to receive applications for the construction of new speed humps from both individuals and different entities through the customer service.
The committee will also conduct a comprehensive review of existing humps and work to remove ones that do not conform to standards.
