A consultative meeting on the humanitarian situation in Yemen, called by the Yemeni cabinet’s Relief and Co-ordination Authority in conjunction with Qatar Charity, was held yesterday.
The meeting, which was attended by representatives of humanitarian organisations in GCC states and the Muslim World, was aimed at holding consultations on the best means of responding to the humanitarian needs in Yemen.
The meeting shed light on the challenges and hardships facing the humanitarian response efforts in Yemen and the Yemeni cabinet’s Relief and Co-ordination Authority and how to co-ordinate with it.
The Director of International Development Department at the Foreign Ministry Dr Ahmed bin Mohamed al-Meraiki said the meeting comes amid difficult humanitarian circumstances Yemen is passing through. He added that the conditions require the intensification of efforts and a qualitative and urgent initiative in the relief and humanitarian sector.
Addressing the opening session, Dr al-Meraikhi expressed confidence in the ability of the humanitarian, charity and relief organisations to draw up at this meeting a clear vision and co-ordination mechanisms that will contribute to the development of relief and humanitarian work in Yemen.
