The Advisory Council has approved a draft law that tightens penalties on contractors who violate the standard regulations for digging on public roads, local Arabic dailies reported yesterday.
The penalties include withdrawing the digging permit, banning the violating contractor for a maximum of three years from undertaking other road works, and banning a contractor from the list of the approved contractors by the Public Works Authority.
The draft law also includes an article that stipulates a fine of QR500,000 or a penalty of six month jail on contractors who leave behind digging equipment or tools when the work is finished and the digging permit expires. Some members of the council argued against the six month jail term.

Student jailed for providing forged certificate

A Doha Misdemeanour Court has sentenced a GCC student to one month’s jail for providing a forged school certificate, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday.               
The student had approached another person in a neighbouring country to register at a private secondary school there. He registered in the school on the payment of QR2,100 and did not attend any of the classes.
By the end of the school year, he asked the person about the examination system and was told that there was no need for any exams and his certificate was already ready with all the necessary stamps.
Eventually, the student approached the Supreme Education Council with the certificate, where officers concerned detected the forgery.

Lawyers panel holds meeting
The Lawyers Admission Committee yesterday held a meeting at the Ministry of Justice. The meeting chaired by HE the Minister of Justice Dr Hassan Lahdan Saqr al-Mohannadi discussed several issues. Among the decisions taken was the preparation of a code of conduct for the legal profession in co-ordination with Qatar Lawyers Association.
The meeting also accepted the creation of a database of the lawyers’ offices and staff in accordance with the Emiri decision No 25, 2014 on the Organistional Structure of the Ministry of Justice.
