The Bulgaria’s ambassador to Katara, Metin Kazak, visited Katara - the Cultural Village and met with Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, Katara general manager.
During the meeting, they discussed joint cultural co-operation. The Bulgaria ambassador presented a proposal to organise an art exhibition at Katara to highlight different aspects of Bulgarian culture.
Dr al-Sulaiti welcomed the proposal, saying that Katara seeks to feature cultures of other countries in order to diversify the activities offered to the public.
He highlighted Katara’s endeavours to support the cultural activities and host talents in various fields of art, creativity and thought.
The Algerian ambassador to Qatar, Abdulaziz Saba, also visited Katara and met with the Katara general manager.
The official briefed him on Katara’s objectives and roles in supporting cultural work, as well as on events and activities and exhibitions and festivals hosted by Katara such as the African Festival.

Al Khor stretch to be fenced

A 1.5m high iron fence covered with a sheet will be temporary installed throughout the stretch of Al Khor and Al-Zakhira road to protect it from sand blown in by wind, local daily Arrayah reported yesterday.
In response to the concerns raised by the Central Municipal Council in this regard, Brigadier Mohamed Abdulla al-Shahwani, director of Al Shammal Security Department, revealed that a committee comprising different entities to find a permanent solution to the problem has decided to plant a green belt of trees beside the road.

Tanzania leader greeted
HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani yesterday sent cables of congratulations to Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete on the occasion of his country’s National Day.

Relations reviewed
HE the Minister of Administrative Development Dr Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi yesterday met Mauritanian Minister of Public Service, Labour and Administration Seyidna Ali Ould Mohamed Khouna who is visiting Qatar. Talks dealt with relations between Qatar and Mauritania and means of developing them.
lQatar’s Ambassador to Croatia Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser al-Thani yesterday met with the head of the Croatian Chamber of Economy Luka Burilovic.

 

Woman motorist, male driver fined for road rage
An Arab lady was fined QR5,000 by a Doha criminal court for insulting and physically attacking a male driver on a public road, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday .
The driver was also fined QR2,000 for being involved in the scuffle on a public street. The incident happened when the driver was transporting his sponsor’s wife through a busy road.
Suddenly, a lady motorist tried to overtake his car, but he did not give way.
Then, the lady drove her vehicle parallel to his car and insulted him and he replied in the same way.
Subsequently, the lady motorist overtook and forced the victim to stop his car too. She then opened the door of his car and dragged the man out by his hair and started to kick him hard.
He was eventually taken to Hamad Medical Corporation’s Emergency Department was given a medical report that he requires treatment for 20 days before he could resume his job, the daily added.

Strong winds likely today in offshore areas
There are chances of strong Northwesterly winds lashing  the country’s offshore areas in the forenoon today, the weather office has warned.
As a result, the waters could rise upto 9 feet at times but it may recede by late evening and fall to 3-5 feet. The winds could vary between 16 and 25 knots but by evening their intensity may fall to 10-18 knots.
The inshore areas may experience winds of upto 17 knots, at times going upto 20 knots.
The weather will be hot and slightly dusty at intervals.
The minimum and maximum temperatures will be 21 and 38 degrees. While in Ruwais and Dukhan, the minimum would be 23 degrees, in Al Khor the minimum expected is 22.The lowest temperature of the day would be on the south western region, surrounding Abu Samra.

Qatar Airways  resumes flights  to Kathmandu
Qatar Airways (QA) yesterday resumed flights to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, capital of Nepal.
A QA Corporate Communications executive told QNA, “We resumed normal flight services to Nepal after authorities reopened it. Passengers holding confirmed bookings on flights cancelled on April 25 are being provided with alternative travel options.”
Qatar Airways is deploying larger aircraft on the Doha-Kathmandu route to accommodate the back-log of passengers, she said.
Passengers booked on the affected flights are advised to contact their travel agent or Qatar Airways’ 24-hour call centre on +968 2416 2700 or +974 4023 0000 for rebooking options.

Expat jailed for attempting to steal
A Pakistani man was sentenced to two months in jail followed by deportation by a Doha criminal court for a theft attempt, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday.He was arrested while trying to steal a bag full of cash from a vehicle when its owner had left a door open for a few minutes. However, the owner of the vehicle spotted the accused trying to steal the bag and immediately called the police, the daily added.

Truck driver injured after tyre burst
The driver of a water tanker sustained serious injuries when the vehicle fell on its side near Shahaniyah town on the Dukhan Highway yesterday after one its front tyres burst. The driver was identified as Sasi Kumar, an Indian national.
