A delegation from the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) visited the offices of Qatar Primary Materials Company (QPMC) to discuss their recent submission of a report on labour conditions.
The visit was part of NHRC’s campaign to promote human rights at workplaces.
The NHRC team complimented the QPMC’s efforts to achieve optimal working and living conditions for their employees. It said the QPMC’s report was an important reference enriched by the company’s achievements and activities aimed at protecting workers’ rights.
It hoped the report would contribute to the consolidation of human rights principles within business processes.
NHRC Assistant Secretary-General Sultan bin Hassan al-Jamali said the committee was keen on maintaining human rights by supporting all efforts by the corporate sector. He also stressed the government’s commitment to the enactment of all international conventions and laws related to human rights.
QPMC CEO Eisa al-Hammadi said the company believes that progress in any business depended on sound risk assessment which included retaining human capital through the provision of favourable working conditions. Therefore, all QPMC employees are partners in the commitment to maintaining health and safety as key elements in ensuring work efficiency, productivity and supstainability.
The company’s strategic direction to generate long-term value to shareholders encompasses working responsibly and transparently to achieve social and economic objectives, including the development of a suitable environment for the working community to flourish, as intended through the Qatar National Vision 2030 in its four pillars.
QPMC director of administration Latifa al-Darwish presented the labour report and the current status of workers to the NHRC delegation represented by Jaber Saleh al-Huwail. Saad Sultan Abdullah and Hala al-Ali who were members of the team also discussed the proposals that could be adopted by QPMC to progress even further in upholding the workers’ rights.
Al-Darwish said QPMC has urged its employees and contractors to adhere to the highest standards of safety, through adopting a clear HSE criterion.
The company, she said, values the role of its workforce in contributing to the QPMC’s commitment towards realising Qatar’s National Vision 2030 and in turn prioritises protection of manpower and skilled labour from work hazards and injuries through the provision of a safe and healthy working and living environment on and off duty.
