Ansar Group of Companies (AGC) has opened its Barwa Commercial Avenue branch , attracting thousands of shoppers to "the largest and longest shopping destination" in Qatar.

Qatar Chamber board member Mohamed bin Mehdi Alahbabi, together with senior AGC officials, officially inaugurated on April 23 the 30,000sqm showroom that houses dozens of shops and stores.

“The opening of the main branch of Ansar Gallery is a quantum leap by any standards and in line with the construction and economic boom in Qatar, especially in the retail and commercial sector and shopping,” said the chairman of AGC in a press statement.

“It made us think seriously because of future developments in Qatar led by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani,” he noted.

The other branches are located at Al Rayyan, Al Khor, Airport Road, Al Mansoura and City Center Doha.

Doha City and Ansar City are also operated by the group.

The AGC chairman said the showroom will provide a “full range of products and services” to shoppers, including a food court, supermarket and an entertainment zone for children.

The grand opening also saw a large number of families and individuals taking advantage of the promotions and big discounts offered by each shop.

“The vast area that Ansar Gallery is located on has given us the freedom to add many and varied sections to meet all customers’ needs without going to other places,” the AGC chairman stressed.

Sections include supermarket garments, children’s accessories, stationery, women’s accessories, perfumes, curtains, tents, an Arab section, furniture, interiors, sanitary ware, carpets, ceramics, fun zone and an indoor kids' entertainment centre with more than 100 games.

The new showroom in Doha has a total of 1,300 (300 outdoor and 1,000 basement) free car parking slots .

The AGC chairman noted that the building has been developed using the latest engineering methods and specifications. Its "modern and distinctive design provides a unique shopping experience" to residents of Qatar.

At the opening, a large number of shoppers roamed the 800m-long showroom and availed of the various offerings such as the “Get back half of your purchase”.

Laptops are on sale (dubbed as “killer sale”) pegged at less than QR1,000 while huge discounts on gadgets have attracted many customers.

“In other stores, an iPhone 6 costs about QR2,600, but here at Ansar, it is only QR2,300. Prices of other mobile phones and brands are also very attractive, you cannot resist the temptation to buy,” said Jenny Rodriguez, a Filipino expatriate. Promotions and discounts will run until May 8.

Ansar Gallery’s executive director noted that most of their products are being imported from Europe, Turkey, East Asia and “other sources whose products, we feel, are welcomed by our customers”.

The branch has also a supermarket section.
