As the summer heat continues to rise, touching 44C in some parts of Qatar yesterday, motorists who want to tint the windows of their cars have been urged to ensure that only quality materials are used for the purpose.
“Car tint films serve two important purposes, to lessen glare and keep the interior cool by rejecting as much heat as it can from the sun,” a tint shop manager told Gulf Times.
The shop manager explained that high-quality tint films augment safety because glare could be a safety hazard, especially if the driver is facing the sun.
Low-quality tint film has a low heat rejection quality. But there are many types of ceramic tint films that provide high heat rejection, he said.
The price range of ceramic tint films, which could provide 80% to 90% heat rejection, varies depending on the shop but the average price is QR2,500 or higher.
Demand for tint films will increase in the coming months, the manager said. “The summer season ushers in many motorists who either bought new cars or want their old tint films replaced.”
Arthur, a tint installer assigned to work on several vehicles of a car showroom along Salwa Road, said ceramic tints are available in his shop for only QR1,500 as part of a summer promotion.
“We are using high-quality ceramic film but the reduced price is only meant as a marketing strategy now that job orders are expected to increase this summer.”
Aside from new car owners, Arthur said some of their clients want their old tints replaced while a few others want to upgrade to a “better type” of tint film.
“Not all of our clients can afford ceramic tint films but there is a wide range of brands available that could serve as alternatives and still provide quality performance,” he added.
