Qatar Charity (QC) is continuing its “Yemen…We are with you” campaign, which targets Yemenis experiencing extremely difficult conditions and has benefited more than 52,000 people across the country till date.
The project has so far covered the regions of Shabwa, Abyan, Lahj and Aden, and is expected to reach provinces in and around Hodeidah in the coming days.
The relief includes basic food and non-food items for families and medicines and medical consumables to hospitals, which are involved in the treatment of citizens injured and wounded
during the recent events.
The humanitarian crisis experienced by Yemen for the past few months has exacerbated the humanitarian situation in various fields, particularly those that affect the daily lives of citizens. Hundreds of thousands of people are without water and electricity, food and fuel are scarce and there has been an almost total collapse of medical services due to electrical outages and lack of medicines and medical disposables. Significant internal displacement from major cities to rural areas has also increased human suffering.
Most provinces of Yemen have been affected by the current crisis, in particular Sana’a, Aden, Mukalla, Lahj, Marib, Taiz, Hodeidah, Dalea and Saada, and according to United Nations agencies, the number of displaced persons currently stands at 100,000 people, with tens of thousands who have not been counted.
These statistics also reveal that more than 60% of Yemeni people have been living on humanitarian aid for several years, and this figure is believed to have risen dramatically in light of the current situation. According to local sources in Yemen, food and medicine stocks have decreased sharply, with many items set to disappear from the local market over the next few weeks, meaning that the country is facing an imminent and major humanitarian catastrophe.
