Moldova is looking forward to expanding its trade and economic relations with Qatar with more agreements, a top official of the country has said.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Natalia Gherman, who is in Qatar to take part in the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal  Justice disclosed this to Gulf Times on Monday.
She also met with several Qatari ministers and top officials to discuss trade and economic ties between the countries. The deputy premier said Moldova and Qatar will sign two bilateral agreements during her current visit. She explained: “We are planning to expand our relationship. During this visit, we are planning to sign two agreements, one on education and another on justice. We also plan to sign an agreement on the aviation sector very soon.”
Gherman said: “In addition to these agreements, we are exploring the possibility of expanding trade and economic ties. Moldova has plans to export fruits and vegetables to Qatar and is looking forward to co-operation with Qatar in agro industries. We produce excellent juice and processed food. This gives us a great scope for co-operation and trade potential in the agricultural sector. We are also looking forward to co-operation in the energy sector with Qatar.” The Moldovan official said the country is looking forward to co-operation in several of fields of education.
“We are proposing university level research and further collaboration with Qatari universities.There are also plans for exchange of ideas in teaching and learning activities. We will be signing an agreement in this regard with the Minister of Education of Qatar.”
The deputy premier also officially opened the Moldovan embassy in Qatar which has been in operation for nearly two years. After the opening ceremony of the embassy, she said that it is the first embassy of Moldova in an Arab country.
“This is the first Moldovan embassy in the Arab world. Last year a Qatari embassy was opened in Moldova. Thus, the relationship between both the countries  have been further strengthened,” she added.
