Air fares go up for spring break

Air fares have increased in view of the spring break as many local families seek to travel outside the country, local Arabic daily Al Sharq has reported.
While destinations such as Saudi Arabia and Dubai are the favourites as this is a short holiday and such places are easy to visit due to their proximity to Qatar, some families also go to places like Malaysia or even the UK, the daily adds.
Most travellers, though, have been critical of the practice of using such holidays as an excuse to significantly increase air fares. They have stressed the importance of controlling ticket prices, which will help keep vacation costs within limits, according to the report.
Suwaid al-Mabsali, a citizen, alleged that there is manipulation of ticket prices through the imposition of “fake” taxes. He called for intervention by the authorities to control this market through the prevention of such practices, the report adds.
