Qatar Shell has received the “Outstanding Entrepreneurial Support” gold award during the Reyada Award ceremony for the company’s support to Qatari entrepreneurs and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The award was handed over to Qatar Shell by Sheikha al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani in recognition of the company’s successful corporate social responsibility (CSR)
initiatives.
The Reyada Award, launched by the Social Development Centre (SDC), was designed to celebrate Qatari entrepreneurs and the supporters of
entrepreneurship.
Mohamed Abu Jbara, CSR manager, Qatar Shell, said, “We are extremely proud to receive this recognition. This award reflects our commitment to support the Qatar National
Vision 2030.
“Together with our Qatari partners, Qatar Development Bank and Bedaya, we seek to create long-term business opportunities for Qatari SMEs as well as inspire the future generation to consider
entrepreneurship as a career.”
In partnership with QDB, Qatar Shell provides local SMEs with business opportunities within its supply chain.
Qatar Shell, in collaboration with Bedaya, also runs the Enterprise Challenge Qatar, a programme that supports and inspires young people in Qatar to become future entrepreneurs.
More than 700 students from 14 schools and nine universities across Qatar participated in the 2014 edition, which saw more than 120 mentors, the majority of whom are Qatari volunteers.
Qatar Shell also recently signed an agreement with SDC, Qatar Business Incubator Centre (QBIC), and Silatech to host “Navigator,” a common purpose programme that focuses on
innovation and entrepreneurship.
The programme, which will run from May 24 to 28, will help develop participants’ leadership capabilities and generate new ideas that have the
potential for prototype.
In 2013, QDB and Qatar Shell launched the “SME Business Opportunity,” a programme that aims to develop the private sector in Qatar.
During its 2014 edition, seven new business opportunities were presented to Qatari SMEs to become suppliers of choice to the Pearl GTL, the world’s largest gas to liquids plant delivered by Qatar Shell and Qatar
Petroleum.
Five new Qatari SMEs were awarded with contracts for Pearl GTL, bringing the total number of awarded local SMEs to eight for the period of
2013-2014.
