Al Khor Hospital’s (AKH) Nursing Service held its first nursing grand round to provide a platform for medical and nursing professionals from Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) to exchange knowledge and expertise.
During the session, attended by more than 300 participants, nursing leaders from AKH highlighted their services and management
procedures for normal and complex cases.
Dr Faiza Yousef Bahnas, assistant executive director of nursing at AKH, said, “This is the first time AKH has led a session like this and we are delighted to have shared our achievements with our colleagues from HMC. We used this opportunity to share information about a complicated gynaecological case that was successfully dealt with by our highly skilled nursing team.”
She added, “The nursing staff at the hospital is dedicated to providing the best possible care to our patients and has demonstrated this commitment through effective management of patients’ conditions and taking the necessary actions to prevent complications.”
The event featured a lecture on pulmonary embolism, a condition in which one of the pulmonary arteries in the lung is blocked, its major symptoms and best practices to treat it. This was followed by another lecture on medications that prevent blood-clotting, showing various types of these medications, the
appropriate doses and possible side effects.
As part of the grand round an entertaining physical activity was also held, including some exercises advisable for people who perform jobs that need prolonged seating, with the aim to prevent thrombosis, which is the formation of a blood clot in a part of the circulatory system.
Dr Mohamed al-Jussaiman, chief of General Hospitals’ Group and CEO of Al Khor Hospital, said, “There are about 550 highly skilled nurses working in AKH, to provide the safest, most effective and most compassionate care for patients.”
